"Physical"

Denise Baird used to be in our minichurch. I was on her sister's blog today and read a posting about the sermon she heard NY Eve. Here is an excerpt that I wanted to share with you. It is awesome.

it was New Year's Eve the pastor was focusing on a "time to reflect"...the sermon was based on 2 Corinthians 13...more specifically verse 5: "Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test?" In this passage Paul commanded the church of Corinth to TEST and EXAMINE their faith. Pastor Mike used the analogy of going for an annual physical and some of the exams that are used to determine if we are healthy or not...

The heart (usually the first thing that's checked)- Where are we placing your trust/faith? It's not just what we believe...even "the demons also believe, and shudder"(James 2), but what's in our heart...where are we ultimately putting your trust.

The "blood" test- are our sins covered by Christ's blood or are we trying to use our own good works to save ourselves?

Appetite/Diet- Are we hungry for God's Word or the things of this world? What are our desires? ("those who belong to Christ have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires") Is our diet made up of the Daily Bread or "junk food"?

Growth- What kind of fruit are we growing....are they from the flesh or the Spirit? (Gal. 5)

Have you passed your spiritual "physical" or is time for another check-up?
